Utilities

CTA Services for Utilities

The opportunity to replace aging infrastructure, the recent enactment of green regulatory and legislative policies, and increased environmental awareness have afforded utilities a central role in renewable energy and energy efficiency.  Utilities advance the market through the construction of renewable generation and supporting transmission infrastructure, programs to promote energy efficiency and peak demand curtailment among their customers, and the roll-out of a smarter grid that will increase reliability and enable dynamic management of supply and demand.  Some utilities have advanced their commitment by investing in or acquiring leading clean technology players that can help them achieve their goals.  As they move forward, utilities will continue to face a host of complex planning, investment, and technical challenges, e.g., determining the appropriate level of ongoing capital investment to maintain minimum reliability standards and implementing net metering standards and protocols.

Cleantech Approach works with utilities in their sustainability planning and investment decisions, primarily concerning energy efficiency and distributed generation.  Our knowledge of the range of technologies, companies, and products enable us to identify appropriate solutions for promoting energy efficiency and distributed generation among customers.  At the same time, our relationships with municipalities and knowledge of existing and anticipated regulatory frameworks allow us to accurately analyze the investment case for energy efficiency and distributed generation solutions.  Further, our relationships with large owners, operators, developers, and tenants across the commercial office, industrial, institutional, mixed-use, residential, and retail asset classes uniquely position us to advise on mobilizing key real estate customers.

Examples of services provided to our utility clients include sustainability planning and implementation, technology evaluation, investment analysis, measurement and verification/performance analysis, vendor and product selection, incentive alignment, and policy research.
