Facing the looming challenges of demographic growth, resource scarcity, and climate change, governments and their associated agencies play an important role in renewable energy and energy efficiency development, investment, and deployment. They have been among the largest investors in emerging technologies and companies to date, enabling them to move through the development and proof-of-concept phases towards commercialization. They have also provided key project financing through grants, loans and loan guarantees, investment and production tax credits, feed-in-tariffs, and other financing vehicles to scale the market for these solutions and to hasten their deployments. Beyond the financial resources that they have committed, governments also influence renewable energy and energy efficiency adoption through policy mechanisms, i.e., GHG/carbon reduction goals, the promotion of carbon markets, energy efficiency and renewable portfolio standards, stricter building codes, and other enabling legislation.
Cleantech Approach works with city, state, regional, and national governments, as well as their associated agencies in their sustainability planning, investment, and policy decisions. Our understanding of various regulatory and financing frameworks being implemented in different geographies allow us to identify or formulate strategies best suited to achieving sustainability goals and targeted policy outcomes. Further, our complementary skill sets in energy, technology, and finance enable us to identify and evaluate appropriate technologies or products for deployment within government infrastructure or policy support.
Examples of services provided to our government clients include sustainability planning and implementation, technology evaluation, investment analysis, measurement and verification/performance analysis, vendor and product selection, incentive alignment, and policy research.
